Pyramids

Explain the importance of the Pyramid of Khufu to the ancient Egyptians.

*Were tombs for Pharaohs and their wives/husbands
*Mainly in the Old and Middle Kingdoms
*Khufu is the largest Egyptian pyramid and is the only remaining structure of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World intact
*All built on the West bank of the Nile, the side where the sun sets.
*They point up to the sun, a key feature of Egyptian religious life.
*Khufu also known as the "Great Pyramid" of the "Pyramid of Cheops"
*Oldest and largest pyramid built for the 4th dynasty Pharaoh Khufu
*Built over 20 years and was finished around 2560BC
*It is about 3800 years old
